    Goodyear Duratrac - any thoughts?

Booked in to get a set of Goodyear Duratrac 265/75/16 tomorrow, 365 each. Cost aside, I'm choosing this tyre to replace the KM2s because I would prefer to have an AT due to 80% of my driving being road/gravel, and a possible Simpson trip next year in which the AT would be the tyre of choice I think. I like the more open tread, it is tending towards a muddie, which will come in handy in the top end during the wet, and is reputed to be quiet and good on road. My question is durability- has anyone had experience with this tyre? Keen to hear opinions, for the money i could probably get Cooper st Maxx, but am a bit sold on the goodyears, unless anyone has an alternative view.

    Thanks

Sorry this is a bit late but here goes... I' looked hard at them before buying KM2s. The deal breaker was they were not rated as LT light truck. Seemed to have the load rating etc but Goodyear national sales confirmed they were not LTs. The sidewall pliews were from memory significantly less as well. But the tread pattern looked v sexy!!! Whats your view now?

No doubt way too late, but at that money I would have been looking at the Maxxi AT or if you really want to spend the $$$, I would have opted for the Coopers just on the extra tread depth and side wall reinforcement.
Keen to know how the Goodyears go though.

    Duratrac are an LT...

They get excellent wear at the mine on some real aggressive surfaces.

Wet road handling is good too.

In all but slop they seem to do well...

Wear rates are very good too.

We've banned Coopers on site after multiple failures, blowouts and chipping.

Tombie, I'm keen to know why you say they're LT's. Mainly cos I thought they looked the goods. In May when I bought my tyres, they had no LT designation on carcass and GoodYear confirmed they were not LT. Has that changed?

    Local Beaurepairs confirmed LT status.

Sidewall on tyres on work vehicles read LT 8ply

    Goodyear literature reads "LT"

Never trust a salesman! Check for yourself.

Well this thread is back from the grave! I did buy the Duratracs, in the end though I went for 245/75, just felt the taller 265s might have affected gearing ( i have an auto) a bit much- very happy with the gearing and handling of the 245s. I think they offer a bit of improvement in fuel econ though still a bit early to have real comparison figures. They are defnitely LT, no way I would have bought non Lt tyres. They have gone really well so far over about 1000ks, initial imnpressions are they are quiter amd smoother than km2 on road (only to be expected), and off road on well made gravel/dirt roads they are better in the steering and handling dept, they seem to 'track' better when cornering and I find they grip well on wet bitumen and dirt roads - haven't been on any really wet boggy stuff so can't comment on that yet, which is where i would expect to see the biggest difference between km2s. So far so good- interesting wardy about Maxxis, som many d2 drivers rate them highly. They were on the short list- bascally the duratracs just seemed a good fit for me, an a/t with some open tread that should help in mud a bit- oh well that's what I have a winch for

these tyres are great have had a set on chipped td5 130 and no probs as quiet as a bfg a/t ko steering great as is braking , they are definitely a LT construction as mine has it all over the side wall 235/85x16LT and they have an extra ply of nylon on the tread than a bfg KM2 [ 3 ply polyester, 2ply steel , 1 ply nylon ] goodyears are 3 ply polyester , 2 ply steel , and 2 ply nylon and side walls are 3 ply as well , they look like they will give good mileage costs were $320 each fitted and balanced , with free balance and tyre rotation every 10,000 for the life of the tyres great deal [ jax quickfit at ballarat ]

Add me to the happy camper category, as I've had them fitted to the missus' Prado and they have been brilliant. They are on the aggressive side of an AT and can 'whine' above 80km/h, however the grip they have in the wet especially is outstanding.

    Cheers
    Chris
