So what's the fix for this then?
So what's the fix for this then?
See how the door seal has come away a bit halfway up the right side. That is what was making the noise for me. I just pushed it back on to the lip it sits on. All good.
As for the back door - it seems to be waterproof but sure a hell isn't dust proof. But from what I've read none of them are.
Mine looks like it has flattened out over time so it probably isn't sealing as it should.
I saw the other day a new rear door seal for $90.
Nick, you're a gentleman and a scholar!
Just been out to look, and as you predicted, the window strips had indeed dropped about about 2.5 inches on both sides.
A quick "pull out and up" proceedure, and hey presto, windage problem solved!
Many thanks mate.
Now, think I'll have a go with the rear door hinges over the next day or so and see how that problem goes.....
Cheers all for the valuable input, as ever.![]()
When i was fitting an onboard air system in the very back driver side , behind the trim , i discovered that a vent (250mm x 150mm) had droped out of its hole in the panel. This is right behind the rear wheel and the dust was entering here badly .
I re-fit it with a bit of silicone around it and since it has been a lot cleaner in the back.
It might be worth a look.
Think there have been a few threads on this but here goes:
1: yes the window seals slide down, you need to use some contact adhesive or silicone behind the seal or they will continue to slide down. Contact is better.
2: As for water sealing. The seals have a gap for air egress when you close the doors. Stupidly this is at the bottom corner of the doors. Get some of the stuff you use to fit insect screens to doors etc and slide it in as far along the seal as you can (silicone spray helps). This packs out the seal along the bottom and up the verticle side and makes for a great dust/water seal. I also put some silicone over the gap, leaving the doors open for 24 hours after doing this means the silicone will 'go off' and not make a mess.
3. The rear door.... Never had a prob so I have no idea![]()

I have checked out everything on the rear p/door & can't seem to see anything out of place. Not sure what else it could be...bloody annoying too![]()
Thanks to this thread. Yes had the wind noise and yes the seals had slid down. All fixed. Thanks again.

I was wondering if it is possible to wind down the window and bend the top half of the door in against a block of wood but as I wright this I realize the back windows do not go all the way down.
On my 1999 it is the rear drivers side door that whistles. Drive me nuts too.
I have tried putting draft excluder on it but to no avail.
Did you check the window rubber strip hasn't fallen down?
Dave.
