Can't take a trick..
Well got the car started after refitting the heads and working out the problem with idle. I took it for a test run and parked it in the garage.
I noticed that the starter sounded strange, but given it was starting easy enough I parked it into the garage.
Went to move it this morning and the starter sounded worse and then wouldn't engage. Pulled the starter and the starter housing has shattered into 3 pieces, and worse still it has stripped two teeth from the flywheel.
Starter was replaced by a workshop just prior to me picking it up from the previous owner with the blow head gasket. I have contacted them and sent them photos, waiting to hear back from them now. %&^#@!

Just wondering
The starter has 9 teeth, is it supposed to have 9 or 10 teeth on a 2000 V8?
I am thinking this is why it ate the teeth off and wasn't meshing properly
