Aaah, but can you check without collapsing the entire waveform that is the known universe into something resembling a nice bowl of petunias? Perhaps the cat will have disappeared into the same wormhole, or perhaps it will have run home for tea.

Either way, this must be the first place I have ever come across where it is possible to get from TD5 head gaskets to quantum mechanics in one easy thread!

Right, all I have to do now is to get the mechanic to take the head off. He is certain it's not the head because the engine hasn't overheated. Like has already been mentioned though the temp gauge not moving doesn't mean the engine hasn't gotten too hot.

It seems painfully obvious to everyone on here what the problem is, I don't know why he doesn't get it.

Whoa, I've just been quoted $2500 to remove the head, replace the gasket and machine the head. No wonder he didn't want to take the head off!

Well after being at the mechanics (a Land Rover dealer no less) for two weeks they never found where the water was going, or why it was running rough. But that no longer matters, driving to work today there was a clunk followed by the sound of bits falling off the car. I looked at the dash to find the oil light was on so I coasted to the side of the road and then surveyed the oil slick behind me and picked up parts of the big end and conrod off the road.

My Land Rover is now beyond economic repair and I am looking at options to shift it and buy a new vehicle. There is no way I can afford a new Land Rover at the moment so for the time being at least my Land Rover days are behind me. Sad times.
