after spending that much money I would go back to the mechanic and complain as the problem is still there and you are $900 out of pocket for what no have been the problem in the start.
Could be a dodgy earth for the fuel pump?
Need some help, i encouraged a mate to by a d2. His wife was driving it a couple of weeks ago and it just died in the main street of town while she was driving it(lost revs and eventually stopped) mech said fuel pump, so they fixed that ($900). Well they got the car back and while he was driving it at 100km/h same thing(lost revs and just died, now wont start, turns over with that high pitched whinning sound so no fuel or maybe spark.
Before spending money got any ideas, im thinking ecu but are unsure if this a prob in the d2's as mine is a d1. its a 1999 v8 with 240,000km on the clock.
Any help appreciated

Could it be really dirty fuel, blocking the pump intake?
It could also be the fuel pressure regulator valve.
it could be Crank sensor problems, I have had similar issue and it would fail intermitantly, when the sensor heated up, cool down and then start and eventaully no go
Take it to a respected Land Rover repairer, as I have no idea where you live in Australia I cant recommend a local, have it plugged into their computer/diagnostic machine. $900 to replace a fuel pump what a ****ing rip off, $70 for a Holden commodore pump and an hour to fit, less than $200, I'd be tearing strips off the bastard that ripped your mate off, Regards Frank.
A decent mechanic should be able to tell you whether you have spark or not, when my crank sensor failed, the car would turn over but not fire, I thought it was the immobiliser at first, anyway I rang RACV and the mechanic told me no spark. I had it towed to LR mechanic and when they first checked it they confirmed no spark, when they went to repair it, it started straight away. Long story short I had the crank sensor and leads changed and never had any trouble since.
Cheers Matt
