Oil leak behind the oil filter

I've tried to post this thread before with no success - Sorry if I'm repeating it.

    Hi All,
    Disco ii td5 2000 195,000km - and what a car...love it.

    Repairs/maintenance to date:
    wheel alignment
both camshaft seals (bore blanking plugs)
    rocker cover gasket
    steering drag link
    turbocharger oil drain pipe gasket

    To do:
    fuel cooler
    engine & transmission sumps
    engine mounts sagged
rear propshaft rear rubber drive coupling

    What ?!?!?! repairs/fixes:
    * After replacing the turbocharger oil drain pipe gasket, and washed the access oil from the engine. I noticed, a few days later, there is still an oil leak (not as bad as before the gasket replacement). It's behind and about 60mm left and right the oil filter.

    * As the engine warms, there's hot air blowing in from the driver-leg A/C vent. If I turn the A/C on, set to Auto and turn the A/C off, the flow of air stops and will not start again until I switch the engine off and on again.

Any help will be deeply appreciated.

    Cheers

Re the oil leak, check the oil pressure switch. An oil leak from there can look like it's from the filter.

The oil leak was common with my D2, make 100% sure that the oil filter is tight, as you know its in a bugger of a spot.I have had mine leak from the filter when the old o-ring never came off with the previous filter and I fitted the new filter. You can get a filter spanner that can get onto that filter, alot of service places only fit the filter hand tight

Also the centrifigal filter housing bolts will wear the thread in the housing causing the cap not to screw down tight, this can be fixed by getting longer bolts that will go thru the housing using all the thread.

Lastly the gasket that holds the oil filter housing is leaking, and to repair that you need to remove the turbo.

You can lie under the car and using a torch see the filter and the housing behind it, if you clean it all properly and get under there fast enough you will pick the leak, my guess is check the filters first..

    Cheers Ean

Oops! I just realised you were talking Td5 and not V8.

    Hi all,

My apologies for the huge delay - I only just got the chance to investigate this a little further, and now I'm scared.

Could this leak becoming from the oil cooler?

Is this an issue with the td5?

P.S. The image that may show a little more behind the oil filter is in, "What Did You Do To Your Landy Today", and it won't let me upload it here - my mistake.

To prevent the hot air thing...

    Leave the climate control on!

It makes no difference to economy.

    Really?

I always thought, as soon as you switch on the A/C, there goes the fuel economy.

It is one of those things I'm to test. I just haven't had a full tank where I use it as per normal.

    Cheers

Man, how did you get to look up there? The best I could achieve was pointing a small camera in that general direction and kept taking pictures until I got a few good ones.

To replace the oil mount gasket: All I'd need to do is take the turbo out?

    Cheers.
