Give a good service and change all the oils (diff, gearbox, TC, engine) perhaps new filters as well. You should find it better but not much... I would say around 650 -700km are pretty common for auto

D2's fuel tank is 95 litres , a bit more if you fill up the neck.
I do about 10km/l ,12km/l if Im towing. Its a '02 TD5 auto , this seems about normal.
Only way is fill, set trip, drive, fill, calculate. Do not go by the gauge position, can be erratic!
Cheers Scott
I average 800k a week on td5 auto arb bar pirelli scorpians
cruise and a/c on 100-105 km/h
distance until low fuel ligh comes on 680 to 700k
Usually fill at 730 to 750 k 78 to 80 liters
rang dropped to 650k cause leaking fuel pressure regulator
replaced block , cleaned sensors and back to averages.
things that I have noticed that affect economy
head winds they are not that aerodynamic
driving over 100k a run at 110-120k makes a big differance
Overall happy with consumption.
have never put more than 80 liters in it would be interesting to drive it untill it stops to see how many ks it does
If you have a TD5, you have a 95 litre tank.
My TD5 does 10/12 lts per 100 kms. = about 800 kms per tank.

You are one lucky one
I have just done a quick trip to the eastern states. I did notice the Odometer was out a little compared to the GPS, about 10km per 500Km....
Adelaide, Sydney, Newcastle, Coffs Harbour and back to Adelaide.
2001 TD5, TRS Chipped, CEM treated, EGR Removed, lifted suspension, STD sized tyres, front factory brush bar.
So for the 3828.8 Km trip I averaged 9.96 L/100km or 15.9 cents per kilometre. I mainly stuck to the speed limits and climbed hills without slowing down much.
The best I have gotten on a tank mostly consisted of a trip to Byron bay and back from Toowoomba. I managed to get 1060 odd before I needed to fill up. This is on standard sized highway tires though. I also have a feeling my odo is out (I assumed it is consistent with speedo) by around 2-4% based off distance - time measurements.
It worked out to be around ~8.6 L/100 km based on amount filled and odo record.
I haven't gotten more than 11.9 which was towing a Suzuki ute.
Manual and 230k km btw
Found out the above was with a blown head gasket. See Post "random loss of coolant".
I have just done the trip again over 6 days so a bit quicker, two people most of the way and with a new Head Gasket, Hoses & Thermostat.
I noticed it now sits on 97c and not 87c (c = Degrees Celsius).
This trip worked out I averaged 9.85L/100 km. Oh yes and it's an Auto. So I am very happy.
