Disco D2 TD5 Diesel Fuel economy

    Dear All,

Rencently learned that my D2 should be getting around 800-1000 kms per tank. I only get 700kms (translates to about 12-13L/100) out of a full tank, thats the best i have ever got out of this car. Generally, my driving is sensable and do half Fwy and City driving. I'm usually the only person in the car, tyres are 235/70/R16, and have an ARB front bar. No other mods.

In efforts to resolve this issue, i have replaced the Mass Air Flow meter with a new one. While it improved response and performace to some degree, the economy reluctantly was unchanged. The car does not blow black smoke which may possibly mean that the mixture is not rich.

My nearest Land Rover specialist has advised me that the car may require a reset of the adaptive settings on the car's computer. While he is reluctant to do that, i'm not really convienced that this is the answer.

Has anyone experienced this problem before?. Does anyone have any ideas on how i can resolve this issue? please help.

    regards

What brand of fuel do use?
I run a 02d2 auto with 235x70 HT tyres and I average 800ks with BP and 700ks with shell.

Sounds about right to me. My long term average is 12L/100Km (Td5 Auto) ... which is around 800km on a full tank. It does worse, and it does better.

Best I drove was around 953km with a theoretical 1055km possible. (Around 9L/100km)

    Don't forget, it's a 2T truck, all wheel drive, with a 2.5L engine !!

Hmm, doesn't sound right. I do a mix of freeway driving and round small town and get around 10lt/100km for a D2a manual.

Can't help you with a fix though. Sorry.

I'd second that. I get best milage from BP, made the mistake of filling up with Shell before heading down to Gippsland on Friday. It appears I've got about 75-100km less out of this fill.

Mobil is the worst I've encountered for economy. I filled at Hawker on a recent trip because the BP diesel pumps were out of order. Consumption went from under 10l/100 to just over 12l/100l. Next fill was BP and consumption dropped back to just over 10l/100km.

Up in these parts, it's Shell or BP, I use both, and notice no difference between them !

Also make sure your tires are pumped up, even a few psi above recommended.
Low pressure will use more fuel
