Phat roof rails were put on the 'platinum' edition models. They usually came with grey alloys and light guards as well.

Also i have seen a couple around with thicker looking roof rails, but haven't been able to get a good look at them. Are these the HSE MY 04 or 03?
The LR model years are roughly September to August. So you could have a MY04 built 09/03.

Yep, Platinum edition from 2003 had tubular roof rails, and I have also seen them on the occasional HSE.

They are quite often referred to as tubular G4 rails, cost about $350 plus postage from the UK.

Service wise we ONLY go by VIN.
Sales wise, sales people will always go by registration date, which in Australia could 3-4 months prior to the next model year.
Hence why you thought? That you have an 03MY, but if the VIN says 04MY, then it is an 04MY.
    Cheers
Had a look a the compliance plate and it was manufactured April 04 and there's a 4 in the VIN. Not sure why I thought it was an MY03 now but I assumed there was a difference between a model year (ie when first designed/made) and the actual year of manufacture ie a model year might apply to vehicles made for several years. No matter; sounds better to have an MY04!

D2 production finished in late May 04 so an April build is pretty late.

There are a few things updated on the 04MY. The SLABS ECU is a later revision than the one in the 03MY.

Date on compliance plate is not manufactured or build date.Build date is on plate front left of vehicle in front of airbox.Small plate rivetted onto panel.
If compliance date is 04/04,build willbe earlier, maybe even late 03,even though VIN says it is MY04.I would guess your build is either01 or 02 of 2004.

For example, mine is not here so i can't check it,but i think it is built 02/04,compliance is 05/04,vin is definitely 2004.

cant find the compliance plate,, seems they needed that space for the gas compliance plate,, however the vin on the gas plate has a 3 where there should be a 4,, surely a typo
