its inside the door, you have to open the door to get to it...

the lock is probably sticky with dust, try this. Pulling back on the door jiggle at the handle while someone taps the door near the lock where it opens with a rubber mallet.

sometimes someone pushing gently from the inside working the handle from the inside(assuming the child lock was off in the first place) works.

You also need to confirm that its done its unlock correctly.

you can strip the trim off of the door from the inside if you can get to it

In the early model locks the childproof lock lever has a design flaw that causes it to stick when the lock mechanism gets dusty. From inside the vehicle, slipping a dinner knife between the door and door-post (work it past the rubber door seal) to tickle the childproof lock lever whilst operating the inside handle usually gets the door open. Once open, the lock can be removed and the over-centre spring on the child-proof lock lever that holds it in the open or closed position can be removed to prevent future problems. Its not the lever itself that sticks, rather it is the part of the mechanism where the other end of the spring locates because the spring pushes it at an angle. Having the spring removed doesn't cause any problems.

Later locks used a much smaller spring (and perhaps other changes) and does not get stuck.

The door lock mechanism itself is also prone to failure requiring replacement, so should probably check that out as well.

Mine did the same recently and only required a liberal spraying of silicone spray aimed inside the crevices of the
outside rear door handle. It then opened after a few manipulations, and I
then applied the spray to all other latches and crevices for good measure.

have someone unlock the door while you pay close attention to the door lock button. If you see it sink down at all then there is a chance that the unlocking mechanism is at fault and the door is not acutally unlocking, the solution in this case is to have someone operate the door unlock mechanism manually while you hold the key in the unlock position and pull the door handle open.

if this is the cause of the problem then theres 3 things potentially at play

    1. Dust in the mechanism (the solution to this is the same as the previous problem, remove the lock and clean it up
    2. linkage failure caused by deterioration of the plastic sleeves that the rods go into, (this can be temporarily fixed by bending rods and adjusting linkages)
    3. Spring failure in the lock (remove the lock and replace the springs)

    hope that helps...

My rear door jammed about 2 years ago while we were on holiday, I drove it for a day or two and the door opened, I removed the lock and found that the WD40 that I sprayed on the lock caused the lock to collect dust and jam. I cleaned the lock out totally and have never had a problem again.

Use "INOX" lube for locks, non sticky and doesn't dry out.
