The ecu will be fine. You will need to load the new injector codes into the ecu.
Hi all,
Recently aquired a D2 TD5, that had a massive engine fail...so its been said. A mechanic pulled down the top end of the engine and declared it DOA. I have been given the car sans the entire top end, including all accessories. ie manifolds turbo etc.
Cost for a complete replacement engine in Australia was out of the question (could have bought an entire TD5 for what was quoted) even second hand.
Good old Ebay uk was used to source an engine. I have nearly completed the transplant, with just the wiring loom to go basically.
Questions I have is....
Is there anything that I need to look out for, potential electrical issues, mechanical or otherwise. Keeping in mind that the car has not been used in three years.
Will the original ECU still be ok after all this time sitting there doing zip.
And for anyone seriously contemplating bringing in a complete engine, the ccost is terrific. Just be aware of the shipping costs, and duties payable at this end are absurd.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone that has some good advise..
Cheers Vince

Thanks for the info, its appreciated. However i dont have the old injectotors...they didn't come with the car.
Is there any way I can do this at home? I have the car at home am not really geared up to do much with the ecu. Alternately, can I just take the ECU to a specialist and have it re written?

The car will still start and run fine with all the injector codes being wrong so you could get it going then drive it to someone to recode.
A mechanical must...
If you don't know that its been changed already, remove the sump and replace the oil pump sprocket bolt because many had insufficient or no Loctite on the thread which allows the bolt to work loose resulting in total loss of oil pressure.
