    Question Locked tailgate

Tailgate Lock: TD5 DiscoII, unable to unlock tailgate (rear door) despite trying central locking on key remote and the manual control on the dash. It makes a sound as though locking/unlocking, door remains locked. Any ideas how to unlock?

Hi, this is a known fault with the Disco2 with a spring in the child proof locking catch.

If you can get into the rear of your vehicle you can usually open the door by flicking this latch. You must first remove the rear door seal from the top corner down to the door lock. Next you will need a hooked piece of wire and give the catch a flick. Unfortunately there may be a rubber block between the lever and the side of the car, making this more difficult.

It is an advantage if you can locate the position of the switch before going into the back of the car.

I found that trying to open the door whilst still locked brings this problem on. Also in our case, a good corrugated road releases the mechanism. Having said that, ours hasn't done this for years.

I've had this problem and found that the tailgate would open from the inside but not the outside - have you tried opening from the inside? In my case the lock button would not pop up and the tailgate remained unlocked.

I replaced the whole lock with a s/h one.

Must check the spring that Bundalene mentions !

    Hello all,

My first ever Disco problem was the tailgate not opening. I found that the latch gets stuck in the 'up' position if you accidentally try to open it when it's still locked (usually if you've unlocked the driver's door and forgotten to unlock the others) If that happens, you can just reach under the handle and work the latch back into the 'down' position. You then have to lock/unlock again.

    Hope this helps.
