    D1 rear coils fit D2?

    I have a set of D1 OME +2" rear coils & a 2000 D2 with rear air bags.
To reduce the possibility of airbag failure in the deserts due to spinifex & mallee roots etc I am considering converting to coils.
    Will the D1 coils fit ( long-travel shocks & a front +2" kit are a given)?
Or are the airbags tough enough to tour the Canning Stock Route without getting punctured?
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Alex

    Alex,

i would fit the coils for that trip, They are compatible. I like the rear air suspension in the D2 for its versatility, and the bags are surprisingly robust, but the compressor and the associated sensors etc are more likely to give troubles.

You can always fit the airsprings back in when you return, I have a few customers who do this.

For really remote travel, coils are best. K.I.S.S.

You'll need the lower springs seats(perches) with the retaining nuts and bolts.
You can use D1 spring seats,it'll give an extra 1" - it's needed as the d1 springs give d2's a lower(sagging) rear end result.
Someone with a nanocom or similar equipment must disable the sls,so you don't get flashing lights etc, many owners just remove sls relay and fuses.

Great advice from Justin, and as Fatman pointed out, you only need the lower spring seats. I have done this for a couple of trips, but I normally switch back to SLS for day to day. ( Much nicer ride- at the springs I use are set up for the vehicle fully loaded plus the weight of a trailer on the back. They can be a bit harsh when empty.)

I am not a mechanic and it doesn't take me much more than an hour to swap over. I use my nanocom to avoid the compressor running and warning lights.
