M&S Flashing lights and Limp Home Mode

    Hi
My 2003 disco 2 has recently started the flashing M&S lights which sends it into limp home mode.
This is fixed by turning off the engine and upon starting again the error has been reset.
I started to take particular notice on when the error would surface.

It never does it before the engine is warmed up and only does it when going into reverse.
When it happens in reverse it is when there is louder 'clunk' as the gear is engaged.

I've read many posts regarding the issue.

I have tested my battery with a voltometer? and it reads 12.5 at rest and 14.5 with the engine idling. (I think this is ok?)
All the terminals are clean and secure.

I intend to have the alternator and battery tested this week.

I was going to attemp to take the inhibitor switch off and open it up to inspect it but noticed in the d2 manual that there is a tool required when refitting. It's tool LRT-44-011.

Can anyone tell me whether this tool is a necessity and if so where can i get it from (i'm in eastern suburbs of Melbourne?

    Cheers

Battery voltage was my first thought when I saw the thread title.
With the extra info supplied I think your looking elsewhere too.

I just had a quick look at what the 44-011 tool does.
It looks to me like it's just to line up the switch to the gear box.
Others may be able to confirm this.

With out the tool have a look at the markings(or add some) before removing.
When refitting use the same marks to fitt it up.
Test it only starts in P and N and the reverse lights work when refitted.

Good luck and let us know what the cure is please.
    Cheers, Kyle

Probably the Selector switch on the side of the auto box, water can get in, so it may be cactus.
    2003 D2a Auto TD5 good Landy gone
2015 D4 probably the most amazing yet, why get a RR?

İf you just take the switch off by its retaining bolts and dont touch the cable and the lever, you dont need any special tool to line it up. It can only go on one way. The shaft has one flat side. Take it off drill out the rivets and give it a clean with brake cleaner. Mine had a few drops of water in it. Then a good spray with wd40 , reseal with sensor safe silastic , I used small zip ties to hold together again. I have not a problem with it since ,, saved a heap of money.
