have disconnected the wastegate actuator rod to check and see that there is full and non-binding movement of the gate ... there was slight binding
After operating the wastegate by hand I noticed that there is a fair movement from closed to open ...probably about 60 degrees. I also noticed that with the rod connected there only seems to be a movement of about 15-20 degrees ... ie. operation of the rod does not cover the full range of swing of the gate.
My question is: is the rod supposed to be able to swing the full movement of the gate? or is it limited to only a small movement. If limited ... it seems to me to be pointless having such a wide swing on the gate
How do I know what is the correct position to adjust the knurled adjustment collar to?
Is there a section in Rave that explains this?
My Rave CD has no mention of the wastegate at all
I also have the TD5 Alive wastegate booster installed and setting it to around what they show in their instructions provides only a small amount of movement (swing) of the wastegate when in operation.
Connecting my compressor (at minimal psi) to operate the rod manually allows the rod to swing the gate fully with the adjustment right out ... however when adjusted to the supposed required position.. as I said, there is only a small movemnt (aroung 15-20 degrees) involved
Unfortunately, I don't have a guage I can use to measure the inlet manifold pressure.
Maximum boost occurs with the gate closed and it only needs to open a little to cause boost to drop significantly.
