The age (km level) is disturbing though...
Were the D1 a more robust engine?

Mine certainly has been - at least in v8 form - and I would be stuffed without it as a backup

First response I have received from most Landy mechanics and/or enthusiasts is that the TD5 is a great motor and bullet proof. When pressed, some have told me they have seen a few similar cases in recent times. (after all I have had 2 in the past year). One thing I have learned is those injectors need servicing on a regular basis.

Other good point of the entire experience - the three amigos have gone, at leat for the moment - although I doubt my journey is a recommended way to sort that problem.

Agree they are very helpful, although I didn't really deal with them directly and I certainly don't want to dump on them, but they did call me after the engine was installed to tell me the vehicle was ready to collect but warned me that I would need new engine mounts because the vehicle had a serious vibration. Deacon's had installed new mounts as part of the first engine replacement so I was confused.

Barry collected the car for me and checked it out. Problem was indeed engine mounts. They had been installed upside down.

ULR took the car back and corrected the problem immediately. Yes, very helpful. Well sorted? Not so sure on this occasion but I am happy to deal with them.

there have been a few pistons lost this way, still, I would say this falls more into the unusual category,, I can only assume servicing them does work--

Not sure what more I could have done. The vehicle had all its regular services as per the handbook so, short of servicing the head and injectors every service, what do you do????
