    More parts needed

OK, I've done it again! My fault this time.

Managed to back into my gate and ripped the passenger side mirror out of it's mounting. Glass is broken, so I need to replace that. The mechanism still seems to work ok, so I don't need the whole mounting. Is the assembly with the glass available? If so, any idea on dollars?

Also the glass assembly was hanging out on 2 wires. Is the mirror heated?

Also, any tips on how to get the mirror assembly back in? Nothing apart from the glass seems to be broken.

As usual, any and all help much appreciated.

    rear vision mirror glass

Much the same happened to me about 4 years ago. Then I was able to buy just the mirror on its backing plate which clips into the housing.

it was a bit fiddly but the kit came with instructions for fitting.
It was a genuine Landrover part from a supplier and not over the top pricewise.
If it isn`t still available like that, the cost of a whole new housing doesn`t bear thinking about.

    Trev,

Ta for the info. I actually just received a new mirror from the UK, but no fitting info. I can see it should somehow click into place, but can't for the life of me make it do it. Don't want to press too hard in case I make it binnable.

Any chance of posting a copy of the instructions?

    mirror fitting

It was a long time ago I did mine, can`t find the details, but I do recall that a fair bit of force is required to clip into place.
Help it along with a bit of damp soap or similar lubricant on the back of the mirror and the backing plate where it clips in.

Maybe also swing mirror backing plate fully out in one direction, push it in on the recessed side, then swing mirror fully in and repeat for the other side.

    Can`t be more precise; sorry.

    Trev.

Mirror alone was $50 from MR Automotive. I found it very difficult to clip it in without getting close to breaking it. The mechanic finally did it by just pushing harder!
Apparently they are heated but nobody could tell me if it was activated for Australian models.
    Cheers,
    Steve

Replaced one last year, purchased from UK at half aussie price. I bought the plastic cradle for it as well but not required.
Easy to fit, make sure mirror is turned towards car as far as it can go. These instructions helped me:

As this happened the other day to me by a female prado driver deciding to run down a merging lane on the M5, bent my mirror on its pivot and popped the glass without breaking. Hers, mirror off, front right bumper off on ground thanks to catching on my steps then bar.

One of the wire connections had dislodged from the glass, the glass clipped back on ok but after this morning and the D/S mirror cleared of moisture within a few minutes and the P/S didn't I'd say that it is activated.
