I have kings springs and use the Tough Dogs (larger bore) and have not had a problem, id probably use billy's next time though.
G'day all,
I am getting ready to instal a 2" lift in the Disc but am not sure what components to use. I have noticed, after some research, that a lot of Disco owners DON"T use the usual brands such as Tough Dog, Old Man Emu, XGS (TJM), etc. Is there a reason for this??? I know that different cars handle better with different combinations of components and the most common I have seen used on the discovery is the Bilstein/Dobson combo. Without research, I would have probably gone with either Koni or Tough Dog shocks and either Tough Dog or King Spring springs. Any thought or information would GREATLY be appreciated as I want the best suspension set up possible, not simply the most popular brand.
The truck has an ARB deluxe bullbar with TJM 9500lb winch installed and I have plans for a custom rear bar and a draw system so heavy duty will be the way to go regarding weight.

G'Day,
I just got my D2a lifted by 2" a couple of weeks ago and like you, had done a lot of reading on this site. I've gone the Billy/Dobinson route as well and had Dobinsons here in Sydney (Smeaton Grange) do the work.
I supplied the Bilsteins which I purchased separately as I wasn't sure whether Dobinsons could supply. So far, I have to say that they are fantastic and this combo seems to be a) very comfortable when not loaded up with gear for a trip and b) handles better than standard even though centre of gravity is higher now. I had HD springs all round but fronts were linear and rears progressive. I also have an ARB Sahara bull bar but no winch yet.
Haven't loaded her up for a trip yet but will be doing so during Easter when I head down to VIC High Country. Total cost is probably a tad more expensive than a Tough Dog combo or any of the more popular brands, but I reckon it's well worth it. I also bought the extra protection plates for the rear shocks which would be highly recommended if you're going offroad. Even the guys at Dobinsons have said they highly recommend the Bilsteins.
Cheers.
Ernie.
Shayne,
I went for the OME springs in my D2. I put comfort shocks in the front and regular OME shocks in the back. I didn't go for nitrocharger sports as I think they are a little to harsh for a D2. Also, in my old car ('04 110) I had tough dogs in the largest size. Found them waaaay to stiff and didnt want a harsh ride in my D2. I think the ride is fantastic on OME. I dont know why other forum members dont like the OME stuff but I think its great. Its funny - if you have a look at English forums, one of the most popular spring shock companies is ARB/Old Man Emu! Here's a link to my thread where I talk about my lit:

I shopped around for a few months, looked at all the reviews etc blaa blaa blaa. Even looked at getting something in from overseas.
Ended up going with Suspension stuff's mates rate kit. Swapped the King Springs for Dobinsons and used their own made shocks. $770 freighted to Perth from Qld and arrived in 4 days.
They reason I chose them was they were really helpfull and they give their shocks a 5 year warranty. Looked at going Bilsteins but they only have a 1 year warranty. So weighed it up and took the gamble.
For me the mates rate kit was best. Lifted the D2 about 70mm at the rear and 60 mm at the front..... thats how much sag it had. And it rides like a dream, even the Mrs likes it.
I could reccomend Shane at suspension stuff for a chat. Check out their website.
And no, I dont work there or get paid to push their products haha.![]()
Were you unhappy with the the Kings.
Regards Gordo
Lovell do a very good 2" kit for the D2.

Just prefered Dobinsons. Heard good things about them. Personal choice really.
Thanks all for the great responses and information. I am sorry for the delay in replying but I've been away camping for the last 4 days, I LOVE the Brindabella Mountains! Anyway, I am still looking into it all. It is a HUGE decision as it will completely change the feel and capabilities of the truck AND it is a big hole in the wallet. lol I will keep you all informed as to my decision.
CHEERS
