I'm looking at buying an advertised discovery II and I want to find out if the vin no matches the description in the ad, any suggestions would be most welcome

Have a look at the vehicle and note the Vin - if it is the same as in the ad then is the same vehicle.

I have obtained the vin no from the vehicle but I have some concerns that the owner doesn't know exactly which model it is and year of manufacture, do you know how I can obtain this info online or do I ring a registered landrover dealer
Give us the VIN less, say, the last three digits. The VIN can be decoded for the year model.

There should be an alloy Plate in the centre of the Radiator support panel which will have Built Date stamped on it. At least you will know what year it was built.![]()
As Ron said put the Vin up and someone will be able to decode it.
However be aware that cars can be of different years depending on what you read.
Eg my disco 1 update was made in Dec 1993, that model was sold in Aust from April 1994 (and had a 94 compliance plate) but was designated by Land Rover as a 95MY.
So how should this vehicle be advertised as a used vehicle - can be advertised as a 93 or 94 or 95 - all are technically correct. The best way would be as a 94 95MY.
However the Vin would show it to be a 93.
The same applies to my Freelander - Vin shows it to be a 97 but Freelanders were not sold in Aust until 1998 and the compliance plate reflects this - so to me is a 98 model.
