    Rear Door Speaker

    Hi All,
    Just a quick question.

Before I pull any trim off the boot door.... can anyone please tell me whether the 5 seater model has provisions for a speaker in the boot door?

    Namely,
    1. What size speaker ?
    2. How many speakers ?
    3. Any comments on wiring i.e. is there provisions already there or would new wiring need to be installed to accommodate a new speaker?

    Hope the above makes sense.

    Thanks,
    Lp

What sort of speaker are you wishing to install? It would be possible to mount something in the rear door but I don't believe they came from factory with anything. Most likely you would have to run new wires but I believe you could easily fit some 61/2 inch speakers or 6x9 speakers. I was toying with the idea of a sub in rear door but I think I would prefer a folding table.

Thanks imatt and northiam for your replies...

imatt - I'm not after any bass thumping doof doof crapola just something mainstream speaker wise and better than them having nothing. I think size may come down to what can be installed and preferably if it were flush as apposed to a speaker box as I have two seats in the 6th/7th space.

northiam - thanks for posting that link. A bit overkill for my needs but all food for thought :-D

...my husband has just told me that one of the guys at his work has two speakers mounted in the boot door behind each seat that sit flush. He doesn't know what model it is and perhaps someone did it before... so perhaps it can be done??

Think I may pull off the rear trim and see exactly what's what so it's clear in my own head - worst case there may be other places to consider mounting speakers into the cargo area :-D ...

    Cheers,
    Lp

The 2 small speakers in the 5th door are subwoofers. Only found on the top spec with UK stereo system (ES & later SE/HSE variants).
The wiring for the 5 seater IS different.
The holes etc will be there but the wiring won't be, it's also not that hard to run wiring to either.
You can also possibly purchase the housing from a wrecker & add what you wish.

    Cheers

I replaced both of my crappy Harman Kardon subs with a baby 6.5" Kicker with a custom box. I threw out the old subs and plastic box.

If you just want better sound you may be better off just upgrading existing speakers and adding a bit of sound deadening to doors to give a solid feel. 6 - 6.5" speakers will fit in both front and rear doors and run off a small amp (mounted under drivers seat) will give ample sound. Can't comment on the LR Harmon Kardon setup but generally they make very good audio equipment
    Cheers Matt
