I just noticed my boots have split, so wondering the same about replacement.
The trick to it for me, might be a healthy wallet. Can't see it getting done any time soon.

I knew a mechanic that said the joints don't wear out, it's the boot that goes first.
He told me they are a mongrel, and said he purchased some cheap ball joints to borrow the boot and fit those to the existing ball joints for a roadworthy.

The ball joints do wear out, the bottom ones wear out first and which will cause huge vibrations and steering wobbles at speed, I would hate to drive a car like that it will be down right dangerous.

I will try to draft up the plans for those removal tools this week and post them up in my tutorial thread.

The lads at MR Automotive did say that the top ones are not known for wear and the bottom ones do wear indeed. I changed my bottom ones with 170K on road klms. I do my own wheel alignments toe and check camber and yes all back to normal (not much in it though). The right side was tight and my homebrew clamp did the job in 20 minutes. As for the left side, well one week later stuck in my garage and most clamps borrowed, broken etc, and judicous use of the no 1 hammer finally got it out. If only I could get a 6ton plus press in that small space then I would have!! Then the same amount of swearing and time to get the new one back in. Just be prepared for the greatest amount of force or you might be lucky. Never changed the tops (wanted to for piece of mind) however I was over it.
