So the answer is that if i "correct" the speed signal, everything will return to normal.
Many thanks to all of you

Maybe not, you also lose cruise if you run 4.11s, give Slunnie a hoy, he runs 4.11s and a truespeed, from memory he still has no cruise control on his D2.

    Cruise control issue

So I have come back from the dark side from a Safari to a D2 TD5 Manual.
fitted 285 75 16's and found 1st gear way too tall, (expected)
Changed to defender transfer case, this gave me back the CDL also
HOWEVER, doing this has cause a fault to be logged.
now engine speed (Crank Angle Sensor) and wheel speed (ABS) are out of bounds.

    What is the fix?

From what I have read I need to install a Speedo correction unit such as a TruSpeed or similar?

Is this the only way or best way?

Where are such unit available from?

ps. I am in NZ (sorry)

I haven't touched anything else,i installed the transfer case by my own (at my parking with a big trolley jack!).
Are you sure it is not something simple like the Hi lo switch being out of adjustment and the ECU thinking it is in low range?

    Does your HDC work?

    I have the same problem with mine, I have a 2004 Discovery 2 td5 manual. I'm running 265/75 16 tyres,
I have changed the transfer case ratio to 1.4 (same as Defender) and I have fitted a speedo calibration unit to correct the speedo, My cruise still is not working so I'm still looking for answers..

If you are certain that the transfer box hi-low switch is working correctly so the car knows you are in hi range then you'll need to adjust the speedo calibration by the differance in ratio between the original (1.2?) and the new 1.4 transfer box, and not necessarily have the speedo reading correct.

This thread is specifically in relation to Td5 and manual transmission.

If there is any variation in the gearing, so the engine RPM and the wheel RPM dont match what they should match in any selected gear, then the CC will not operate.

This is why if you fit a speedo correction unit after the SLABS computer in this specific scenario the CC wont work. Likewise if you alter the transfer and/or diff gearing the CC wont work.

To fix it, a Td5 manual needs to have the output from the SLABS computer corrected to match the gearing, not the wheel size. This is key to correcting speedos in Td5 manuals.

For a Td5 Manual, if there is no change in gearing but a change in tyre size you can probably intercept the SLABS speed signal just prior to the dash, but Graeme is probably the best man to confirm this.
    Cheers
    Slunnie

You can definitely connect a speedo correction unit between the SLABS and the dash. This allows CC to work with standard gear ratios and different sized tyres. This is how I have my C6100 connected on my manual Td5, with working CC.

With a diff and/or transferbox ratio change you will also need to correct the speed signal as it enters the SLABS and as it then goes to the dash, in other words 2 speedo correctors will be required, if you want to keep CC on a manual Td5.
