I recently did a complete (and I mean every cooling component as well as engine flush) cooling system replacement. Scanguage II says 92-95 running (92 if not labourIng) and up to 102 idling. I run Wynns water wetter which makes it hotter at the temp sensor. Dii's run hot for emmisions and economy sake.

While mine is an RRC, if a D2 is running at 92-95 C then it must have an 88C thermostat.
In that case IMHO the idling temperature seems too high, and I would suspect the Viscous fan.
Did you replace the viscous fan when you replaced all the other stuff?

I thought those temps sounded correct for a D2 V8. The D2 has a different cooling setup. At idle the D2 reduces coolant flow to the radiator and then opens up to full flow when the motor is being used. Idle is probably when the cooling system is most stressed in a petrol motor.

105 is starting to get a touch high for an idling engine for my liking the ones Ive measured have been at 98-100 but then I dont generally let them idle for long.

    No wonder they do sleeves!

You don't need much wrong to get damaging temperatures when you are idling normally at 100C or so. Most of the books say 100c is about max for a RV8.
If I had one I would retrofit a thermostat in the top hose as I have done on the Thor in my 3.9RRC , which idles at 94C and a little lower with aircon on..

    Hi Blknight.aus,

I used the Bearmach HawkEye diagnostic tool to monitor the live data in the ECU.

It may be of interest to see the link below relating to our coolant leak and repair.

    Maximum temperature at 1000 rpm

    Hi Blknight.aus,

The maximum temperature when idling at 1000rpm on a 18℃ day is 94℃.

the 94 bit is good,, but 1000's not idle,,
I would think the lack of revs at 650 (thinking water pump) is a cause of high idle temps.

I am sure a bonnet scoop would knock 5 deg off the top no problems.
