    D2a TD5 rattle

Hey guys, I suddenly got this random rattle from the front of my engine. Definitely sound loudest when listening through the grill. When starting the car from cold all sounds good, but once the engine has time to heat up it gets an erratic rattle.
I have attached a video of the noise, the rattle doesn't stand out as much as it does in person, but I thought I would see if it sounds familiar to anything before I go through what will probably be a costly process of find out what it is.
    Thanks.

I don't have speakers to hear the noise but if its coming from the front of the engine then check the harmonic balancer on the crankshaft. The outer, bolted-on section often breaks and wreaks havoc when it lets go. If its cracked then remove the balance section immediately by removing its 3 bolts.

I would say that is the H/Balancer on the way out. Do not wait, see to it right away! Once they get the "marble rattle" its not far from disintegrating and taking stuff with it, like rads. :O replaced mine at 260k kms and it was on the way out.

Don't know if this means anything but with the steering at full lock the noise goes away.

There's very little work in removing the 3 bolts so just do it ASAP! The belt stays fitted.

It could be your tensioner on its way out. When the steering is at full lock you are putting more strain on the PAS pump, which could load the belt more taking up some slack.

Cheaper and easier to replace the tensioner, idler (If you have one), and serp belt first.

Hmm, yes could be the idler/tensioner. Take the belt off,15mm socket or ring to relax tesioner, and spin each pulley. Listen for bearing grumble and look , for runout. Sometimes you can feel excessive movement in the hb with your hands with the belt off.
