Need some education on D2's, Please.

Took a friend 4WD'ing in his recently purchased Disco 2 TD5 Auto with no provision for locking the CDL and after some driving it seems that the Traction Control (TC) is/may not be working. Can anyone please explain that has the same type of Disco 2. how do you know the TC is on, is there a method to turn it on, like having the Transfer case in Low or not. Location of the relays/fuses would be helpful. Also what lights/sounds do you get when the key is turned on, is there anything to indicate TC is engaged or not, like buzzers/chimes or idiot lights, any help would be appreciated, Thanks, Regards Frank.

Traction control is a part of the ABS and is always on,
the orange TC lamp will illuminate most times,, (split seconds dont count)

The only fuse is labeled ABS,, which makes sense.

Also you should hear a growling noise from inside the car in conjunction with the TC light on the dash.

If you can put the car in a position were your cross axled with two diagonal wheels off the ground then try to drive off, you should see the wheels that are off the ground stop and start as the vehical moves forward.

Here's an excample of what it should look like from outside the car, the trick is not to rev the car too much and it will work a lot better, it's all about throttle control.

You can also put it in low range at the top of a steep hill, press the Hill Descent Contol button (near the hazard light switch) 3x chimes and a green lamp on the dash should light. Let it go down the hill in D. There should be a whole lot of noises and rumbles as the system tries to slow the car. The HDC, Traction Control and ABS is all part of the one system.

You don't even need a hill. Put it in Low Range, Turn on HDC and accelerate up to 20 or 30 km/h, then lift off the throttle. HDC will brake the car until you get down to 7km/h (target speed with no throttle input). The braking action starts of fairly gently and becomes more aggressive as you approach the target speed. You can modulate the target speed with the throttle up to 50km/h.
