With coils at least I can use a WDH which does help with swaying. Before I get the you must have the van packed wrong, Been towing vans for over 20 years and its packed right. I will be sourcing the bits shortly but unfortunately just done the turbo on this trip so will have to wait for a bit money wise to buy the conversion bits needed. I'm not a big fan of SLS but do have to say it keeps it level no matter what and I do like being able to lift the back a couple of inches if needed. I reckon coils with polyairs etc is the go.
Let me know if you want to sell your SLS bits

I got the Firestone airbags for $155 including freight to oz about 6 months ago from summitracing.com. Easy to fit, just chopped up a white chopping board to use as the spacer to stop chafing on the bolts. Valves poke out sideways at the base of the door under the hinges. Can't get bumped there. It took around two hours all up to fit, cut lines, bumper off and measure.

If I'm towing, I'm going to be checking the tyres before my drive so it's no extra to do the airbags to 35 psi. After towing, I just deflate them for around ten seconds each.

    Works for me!

The last time I had to manually inflate the bags they took around 70psi to reach a normal road height,,,

I've still got the coils -> sls project ticking along in the background, although i've only got as far as fitting the off road switch One obstacle I ran into was getting a harness from the wreckers. It seems to be a case of too much work for too little reward.

I recently came across an advert on ebay for a SLS height sensor repair kit which includes two plugs and short cables for replacing damaged connectors for a cost of about $40 shipped. The obvious conclusion is if someone is selling made up kits you can still buy the raw parts.

I think I may have worked out where to source the connector components and the pricing is more realistic. They should work out at less than $10 a connector. Doing some rough costings I should be able to put together a new harness for the SLS for about $75, which is a much better option than patching together one out of shagged connectors.

    Hi all

For air line fittings, bits and pieces, drop Gromit ( Colin ) a PM.

    Thanks for the tip.

What I'm aiming to do is replicate the factory install as closely as possible, so will use factory parts for the air harness, contitech bags, wabco compressor, etc. I've decided that if I am going to do this it has to undetectable as a retro fit.

    Cheers

Paul, I have a compressor in good nick if you want to swap for a Nanocom cable as discussed?

I'll be watching this to see how it goes. I am interested to do this myself as we are now doing more towing than when we bought the D2 with coils.

What are the specs for the wabco compressor? Is there an ARB (or similar) one that is similar flow/pressure rated? It may be easier to get parts if needed. Should be able to tuck a small ARB compressor in the back drivers side of the engine bay and a small tank in the standard compressor location under the car.

    Cheers,
    Nova
