    4.6 conversion

What's the main reasons for dropping in a 4.6 rather than rebuilding the old 4.0?

Is it just power, or are they more reliable? Better economy? Long lasting?

    Cheers.

    Let me think!!!
It might be the 15% extra capacity giving much needed torque.

Some will argue they are more economical but common sense suggests that they will not be.
More reliable. Unless they have top hat sleeves fitted IMHO no.

thanks for that. the reason for asking is that there's a couple of D2a's for sale in Perth at the moment that have had 4.6L motors put in them. i'd assume they're probably done after a BHG, but the worry i guess is whether it's a positive or a negative to the sale. thoughts?

    The 4L is a slug.
    physics will tell you that.

LR sent the same car to the USA with a 4.6,,

    why??

who the **** knows,, but it has nothing to do with common sense

    YES!
    A 4.6 would be a good thing

    wheres the add??

    Thumbs up 4.6 lt

I've dropped a 4.6lt in my 2000 disco. Incredible difference in performance and fuel economy.600Km's out of a tank fuel on the highway.

Don't think about it Do It!!

Heh cheers guys. Basically there's 2 D2a's with about 160-170k on the clock with relatively new 4.6 conversions, and an immaculately original one with the 4.0 but only 90kms on it. All same price, but not sure which would be better buying. Lower KM's and original , or higher KM's and new motor. The worry is the other things that might need doing on higher KM cars vs the lower one i.e gearbox, pumps, etc.

    Thoughts?

If it's a top hat liner 4.6, buy that over a stock 4.0, just did plugs and leads in a d2 for a dude at work the other day, no. 6 plug, rusty as, slipping liner

Easiest 100 bucks for not much work I've made in a while, bad news for him

Mine is one of the ones for sale. Your more than welcome to take it for a spin even if it's to feel difference between the 2 motors just pm me.

I also gave a bit of my d2a's history in your wanted section
