    Discovery 2 Bottle Jack

    Hello,

Can the Disco 2 bottle jack be repaired, or is it time to get a new one??
It's leaking and won't fully raise when weight is on the jack.

    Cheers,

    Jason

I'm reasonably sure the Disco2 has the same jack as the Disco 1 -

There have been a number of threads about re-building the top and bottom seals.

However, it may be that your jack only needs a refill ( look in the oil section at many auto places) and a tighten of the pump pedestal ( Circled in the green). Two of my Disco Jacks leaked here. The solution was to unclip the linkage and, using a big spanner or shifter giving the top section about 1/12th a turn/half a flat. The washer is metal not rubber here, so I don't know why it has leaked at that point. Also, sometimes air pressure builds up in the reservoir, and you have to gently massage the rubber bung to let the air out. ( If you re-fill, tread carefully removing the bung as a replacement can be hard to find).

    Hello, back again.

The leak appears to be coming from the area where the lifting ram comes out of the housing, thats why I was asking about the serviceability.

I did use the search but it came up with na da ting.

    Cheers,

    Jason

Mine did this as well, as did the replacement! I figured it was because of the way it lies in the cradle, so the second replacement now lives in the storage boxes in the back. (I this the replacement was around $35 on special!)

Yes but to be honest, I started the process then picked up a 3000kg small trolly jack for $60. Yes bigger to carry around but it sits quietly on it's back in the boot taking up not too much space. I feel more comfortable having it too as it's capable of lifting the whole car in theory not just one side/corner.

If i know im going where the ground is soft I also take a small piece of plywood to put it on.
