    Question V8 ECU?

Can you remove and refit the ECU on a 1999 4.0 V8 manual without having to re program the ECU to the vehicle?

When refitting the ECU, is it simply refitting it, reconnecting the battery and then clearing the faults associated with disconnecting the battery with a Hawkeye running V5?

ARE YOU REPLACING IT WITH ANOTHER ECU ? or just unplugging your existing one?
I Recently replaced a ECU with a donor one in my V8 ( Auto) it would not start as the BCM also needs to communicate and supply the security recognition. You need to use something like nanocom and select learn security so the New ECU is synched

    Disconnecting ECU

    Hi It'sNotWorthComplaining!

Thank you for your prompt response.

I am only unplugging and re-fitting the original ECU. I wish to check for moisture and any signs shorting. I also want to connect a resistor between the low and the high controller area networks.

This is because our 1999 Discovery V8 manual continually has a P0600 fault that clears, but reappears when the motor is started. This is an auto transmission fault related to a control module signal missing.

The puzzling thing about this fault is that we have a manual transmission, and the vehicle’s VIN numbers indicate a manual transmission was fitted as an original drive train. I have also checked the BCU programming menu with our Hawkeye diagnostic tool, and it clearly states that the BCU is programmed for a manual transmission.

In theory, the connectors in the engine’s ECU for the CAN high and CAN low wires are not used. However, it seems that, for some unknown reason, the ECU is looking for them. So rather than short them out, and cause problems, I will use a resistor to see if I can cancel the signal.

Since I need to open the ECU to do this, I am hoping I can use my HawkEye to clear any fault codes that occur due to disconnecting and refitting the original ECU, such as the power supply interruption fault.

    Regards,
    Caleb

    maybe try an adaptive reset?
when new components are fitted ie Maf, Tps etc- adaptive reset.
    it might clear the problem
