Thread: Noisy Fuel Pump

I don't think a noisy pump will affect fuel economy at all.

As for the noisy-ness and likelihood of imminent failure -- I can't help. I've had a noisy pump may be 3 or 4 times and always changed the pump before it failed. Too gutless to risk it! They are cheap if you order from the UK and since you've got the top open most of the work in changing it is done!

ps: My first one was so noisy I could hear it at 100km/hr from inside the car...

Does not sound too bad??? How much fuel was in the tank?

I am considering buying a fuel pump from the UK but there is also a guy in Ringwood Victoria selling them for $265.00 plus post and I think thats about as good as it gets.

Maybe I didn't write it but this is not my video it was made by someone else and I just found it on you-tube.

My pump does exactly the same as the one in the video and my one started this noise last week and the tank was half full.

( I have not driven alot since then) ( I have been intermitently using our other car).

My pump makes this noise when the tank is full as-well.( I filled up on Saturday to see if it would make a difference.

The pump that is making the noise is an almost new pattern part sold by Allmakes 4x4. Based on the selling price the one selling for $265 on ebay will be of similar quality. They are cheap Chinese copies.

You are far better off spending a bit extra and buying either a Siemens/VDO OEM pump or genuine from the UK. It's very likely to save you money in the long term.

hey guys.my td5 disco fuel pump doesnt make a noise at all.
i had a scan done today at british 4wd and he suggested mine was stuffed.
thanks for the help dan.

i cant get enough fuel to engine to rev over 3000 rpm.
after spending 600 buks on other things and still having the same troubles i am going to change the fuel pump
does anyone know what the bearbach pumps are like.
any advice would be helpfull

Bearmach are a distributor. They sell both pattern parts and OEM. Chinese tend to be about $280-300, and OEM $580-600ish.

I purchased my new fuel pump from british parts in the UK for about $300 delivered. It was the VDO brand which is the OEM supplier and it took about 3 or 4 days to arrive.

Sounds fairly normal to me - sound is increased with the inspection hatch open though. I can hear my pump before startup and it sounds very much like that and has since new.
