Thread: Has anyone....custom rear interior?

I did something similar in a defender. As far as marrying it up to the window trim the best bet would be to make the ply a close fit to the bottom of the trim IMO. Not tried it on my Disco yet, ATM I want to keep the interior reasonably original. Best of luck, post some pix if you go ahead with it

Camel & G4 Discos did something nice & simple.

The side bins were removed and metal ones put in their place. There would be a ridge on these metal bins where a heavy duty shelf could be bolted to it. This would provide rigidity to the setup too.

The bins were about the size of a jerry can.

If your good with fibre glass then any shape can be formed , you just need to make the mould first. Keeps weight down and is strong.

Ive got a custome made Rhodesian Ridgeback hair lined boot area, designed with abit of WA sand mixed in. Its a lovely look, and complements the safari windows nicely.

i'll take pics. i have stripped all the plastic rear panels and cubby boxes out and lined the inner guards with 3mm ply. have a set of 2 drawers, and battery box on one side and all my recovery gear stacked on the other side. heaps of wasted space in the plastic trim liners there.

What you can't see is that each bin is standing on 4x short legs. 4x holes are drilled through the bottom of the plastic trim, to allow the bins to stand on the boot floor, without having to cut too much out of the trim. This leaves a much nicer finish.

The other thing you can't see is that the load space protector is bolted to the far edge of the shelf and then the upper brackets bolt through the plastic trim, into some existing captive nuts (grab-handle I think).

The advantage of doing the load space protector this way is that you can still carry long items, just by dropping the rear seats.

No offence, but what is cutom about that, a plywood board on legs
