    Hi

Our D2 had the 16x8 rims as it was a 'TReK' special edition, originaly had Michelins 255, 70 - 16 IIRC, good tyre, lasted forever BUT, they were hard and tracked off on the road, also got a lot of punctures on dirt tracks, had a few sets of them, then came the Bridgestone duelers, 245, 75 - 16 they wore fairly fast, but they are alot softer than the Micho's also didn't track off as much, but we got more onroad punctures less offroad (maybe a coincidence), these wore down and when i got my D1 it had a good set of Cooper ATR's on it (235, 70 -16) so they replaced the duelers, by far the worst in the wet, slide like mad, but they wear well and don't get punctures. The duelers are now on the steel D2 wheels that are on my buggy trailer (which i tow with the D1 LOL). I run STT's on my car (225, 75 - 16), pretty good, not to bad in the wet and good offroad, wear well and don't have puncture problems, but thats not what you asked about. The Cruiser (belongs to mums father) ute at the farm has 265, 75 - 16 GoodYear Wrangler silent armours on it, if i wanted an AT tyre i would seriously concider them as they seem good, but next to useless when the hunk is sitting on it's leaves in mud haha, also the General Grabber AT2 is a good tyre if you want a slightly more aggressive AT, i would have these over a BFG i think.

    Cheers

Personally, if you are going to offroad it, the BFG AT's don't work well on the Disco2 rims when aired down. They are one of the few tyres that break the bead by themselves when 4WDing at normal 4WDing pressures - thats hard to do on a Disco2 rim!

Personally I would also avoid Cooper like the plague. I think they are an exceptionally over rated tyre that are sold as a premium tyre.

Personally I would also avoid the Bridgestones. My experiences with these are that they are notably susceptable to punctures when offroad, even the reinforced ones. I recall one camp (my previous workplace) we ran where we had a number of punctures and every single one of them were in Bridgestone tyres which a few of the vehicles were running - none in any other brand, including P construction tyres. This was too uncanny to be a coincidence.
Given all the not recommended tyres, what tyre do you recommend Slunnie?

I am looking around for tyres for my D2 as well.
Should add I don't want muddies.

Depending on how you're using them and what particular on/off road bias you need:

Pirelli ATR I can vouch for being a really good tyre and a lot of people are choosing them now.
GoodYear Silent Armour I have heard very good reports about
General Grabber AT I have heard very good reports about - a bit more offroad orientated than the other 2 above it.
Bridgestone Desert Dueller (specificially) - I'm not sure if they still make these - their one durable tyre that had die hard fans.
DickCepek FC-II, Tombie raved about these.
Michelin Synchrone I think were used for a lot of OE replacements if you're just streeting and light trail. Gone out of fashion, probably expensive for nothing special.

    Some options to look at.

When I went looking, I chose the Pirelli ATR - I was looking for a quiet, well rolling tyre with traction and thats exactly what it is. It just happened to be a lot better off road than I expected.

Just a note: the BFG AT is a loved tyre and pretty commonly used - it just seems to be a loose fit in the 235 size on the Disco rims.
    Cheers

Very happy with BFG ATs in 235/70/60. Didn't wear anywhere near as fast as Cooper STs.

I'm just impressed that you could fit a tyre that big!

Slunnie, my use will be a small amount of bush tracks, the (very) odd desert trip, but mostly touring on dirt & the black stuff.

For your use naviguesser i would go the G/Y Wrangler Silent Armours, we pound them on dirt roads out in the bush, and i have never ever had a flat tyre, also wear very well and don't seem to chip, as per the name very respectable road manners aswell, alround good AT tyre, good price aswell IIRC (thats why we got them the first time, just had it's 3rd set put on)

    Cheers

I don't think that there is anything on the market (apart from the GoodYear MTR with Kevlar) that has a carcass the equal of this tyre for strength.
