    Question Removing TD5 turbo oil drain tube

    How easy is it to the remove the other end (the end that I assume plumbs into the sump) on the TD5 turbo oil drain pipe?

    Dead easy. No tricks, just undo nuts and remove. I think i put a bit of sealant on it when I reinstalled it.

    The other end is screwed into a fitting in the block, you will need to bend up a 15/16" open ended spanner to fit correctly. it MAY be tight

    Thanks, so not so dead easy then...

    Did you have any issues with the turbocharger oil drain tube mounting onto the BAS VNT?

    I honestly don't remember any issues with the drain, but the supply was a pain

    I had no issues. My BAS VNT came woith an oil supply line, new banjo washers, dead easy.

    As for the bottom of the drain...once you remove the turbo, exhast manifold, and exhaust pipe....it gives you enough room to get in there with a normal spanner.

    Seems that I have gone about it the wrong way. I removed the old turbo and then the exhaust manifold as I needed to replace the exhaust manifold gasket (as it leaked a while ago and I just nipped it up in the intrim).

    I fitted a new exhaust manifold gasket and torqued it up - I also loctited the bolts as I didn't want them comming loose again. Then went to fit the VNT.

    So tomorrow I need to go back in there and remove the exhaust manifold again, swap the oil feed line over (for some reason I forgot to do this) and remove the drain tube. I might drop the engine oil and change the oil filters since the service is just about due and I'm working in the area already...

    Actually, I'm thinking about going and doing this now.

    Ok, so once I remove all that I can undo the train tube. What about tightening it back up? At that point the turbo and exhaust manifold will be back on, so it'd be a ***** to access then wouldn't it?

    What about the oil feed line, do you need to remove the centrifugal oil filter housing in order to access the end that bolts onto the engine?
