Thread: Centre Diff Lock?????

From what I recall,

2001 - should have the internals but not the lever
2002 - has no internals or lever (I know, I bought one)
2003 - CDL was back from the factory

I believe 2003 is the start of the D2A with the updated headlights etc.

If there is one of those cdl things (circled in the pics) on the top of the front output housing of the transfer case, then you're in luck.

Generally 2001 and 2002 will not have cdl.

MY2002 D2's don't have the CDL internals. The last few months of the MY2001 also missed out on the internals. The model years run from august/september of the previous calendar year. MY2002 runs from roughly August 2001 through to August 2002. MY2001 vehicles built from around April/May onwards don't usually have the CDL internals.

Don't rely on Dealers or most owners to have much of a clue about build dates. They'll generally quote compliance plate dates which can be up to 12 months after build date.

You can find the build date on a small plate riveted to the body in front of the air box. If you stand at the passenger side guard with the bonnet open and look in front of the air box you'll see it.

So is there any possible way to tell from the gear lever in the cab?

Prior to my2003 the D2 didn't have a cdl lever fitted. Unless someone has retro fitted a lever you'll have to get underneath and check the transfer case to be 100% sure.

Easiest way to check if the transfer case atleast has the internals is to get under the car and see if the spigot is in the front output housing.

Cases with serial number with 61D, 62D, 69D & 70D do not have the internals.

Even without the lever you can still lock the CDL with a spanner.
