    D2a Questions

    Hi All

After looking at a number of average discoveries I have finally found a 2003 D2a Td5 Auto which is half reasonable. 140K kms, 7 seater S with a respectable documented service history. Totally bog standard, drives nicely with no clunks, bumps, chirps etc.

Anyway as with all second hand vehicles there are a couple of minor issues that I have some questions about.

Firstly the remote central locking seems a bit crazy. Locks OK but on unlocking the drivers door stays locked. Also has an occasional horn honk on locking suggesting a door is not totally shut but all appear so. Is this likely to be a issue that may be the tip of a major electrical/dollar nightmare or not?

The high low range warning light in the instrument cluster is also blown. Simple replacement job or is major dashboard surgery required? All other lights are Ok and according the the service records it had a amigo type problem fixed last year, with an ABS sensor replaced.

Finally the the SLS raise/lower seems terribly slow after my soft dash classic. Roughly 5-10 secs to go either up or down. Is this normal for a D2a?

Regardless I'll be getting my mechanic to give it a good going over next week and also put the testbook on.

    Cheers

    Steve

My horn usually goes on locking the car when I've been under the bonnet and perhaps depressed the bonnet switch inadvertently a few times.

The central locking issue sounds lik the door needs a new servo, not sure on how much that is, it might just be that the linkage has become disconnected.

I'd imagine that it's gonna take a lot to blow the cdl bulb, perhaps it's an issue with the switch at the transfer box end? The rave manual has you removing the steering column cowl, removing 2 screws and unclipping the binnacle to get it changed, no mention of taking it apart though, it shouldn't be that labour intensive.

I can't help you on the SMS issues, I've got a poverty spec vehicle

    Hi Steve,

When I picked my 04 D2a up from the dealer, it was all sweet as we had not had the chance to lock/unlock the doors and frankly didn't think we needed to. Then at the servo to fuel for the trip home about 4km from dealer yard who was in Bunbury, I could not unlock the drivers door. Tried several ways, ended up unlocking with the key then having to use the fob to stop the screaming. Locking seemed unaffected. Long story short, door actuator needed replacing and as I was not in Bunbury I was directed by the dealer to go to Southern Landrover where the dealer forked out $475.00 to repair the door.
Someone has posted a thread regarding the dash lights (not sure which page though) and they are not repairable as the lights are a part of the circuit board and the cluster was not meant to be pulled apart. Would check all other connectors as suggested by Marmoset to ensure it is actually the dash.
I don't have SLS either so can't comment on that issue.

    Hope this helps...

    Cheers,

    Peter.

I can help you with a couple of things:

5 - 10 seconds is very quick, so I expect your compressor is in good nick.

As far as I know, there is no high/low warning light. Certainly not on my model anyway. Perhaps the upgrade model has it.

When I had the same door lock problem, a new door latch actuator assembly was required. I had one delivered from UK for about $120.

I've never heard of a HI/LO warning light or ever seen one on our D2, unless you are talking about CDL or something, in which case if the light isn't coming on it's either not engaging or the switch is stuffed

There aren't linkages on a D2a they are cables, very rare that they seize up, if the light doesn't illuminate when you ingage it (may need to drive a bit), jack up one wheel and see if it tries to drive off the stand (before TC drives it off)

Many thanks for the good info guys.

Sounds like the remote locking is not a big problem and the sls is fine which is good news.

The indicator light that is dead is located between the diff lock warning light and the hill descent light in the top left of the cluster. The owners manual I down loaded from topix, notes that it will light up on start and if the transfer case is in neutral, neither of which happens.

That said it might not been enabled for the aust market. Can any other Td5 D2a owners, on the forum advise if it there or not?

    Cheers Steve

Our car is an 01MY D2 so the binacle is slightly different, but i've never seen a neutral light for the t case (just turned the ignition on to check and put it in neutral aswell) i can't look at the manual though as i'm busy now and don't have time. Our CDL light doesn't come on as dad disconnected it when he made the lever for the CDL underneath the car so the traction control still works with it engaged, so that may be why.

Hi/Low range warning light on D2a.

    Hi Steve, (Rok Dr),

The dash light you're referring to - Hi/Low range warning light doesn't work on my D2a (2004) TD5 auto either. Just went out to the car then and light did not come on during ignition check and also did not come on when I had the transfer case in neutral.

I suspect it's disabled for AUS spec cars.

    Hope that helps.

    Ernie.
