As above, good engine, love it, great fuel economy.

Like any alloy head, they don't like being overheated. Keep the cooling system in good order and you will be fine.

The centrifugal bypass oil filter keeps the oil from building up a lot of soot, therefore the clean engine.

IMO this is a very nice well built motor. Acknowledging some of the earlier motors have had aproblem with head gaskets, yet this isnt on going, after gasket & dowel replacement.
One of the easiest motors I have ever worked on, reliable, economical and for 2.5 litres, makes anything comparable of the same vintage and younger look like sissys.

    cheers

My TD5 has 347089 kms on it, uses no oil, 2 owners before me, one a city council, the other a pedantic Englishman, both had been spot on with their servicing, on time every time. I try to follow that example . I think if you look after it ,it would do 500,000 kms , or more. [in that time you will replace all hoses more than once, water pump, and many other wear & tear items.] An engine saver low water alarm is a must have, and a water temp guage is handy. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

We have two,, had few common probs with the 99 and only changed at water pump on the 03 . later models have most common problems soughted. Both are at the 200000km mark. The 03 blows no smoke.Regular service like any diesel. Keep them stock and they should go forever, although an EGR bypass in the list.

Mines at 250K. Serviced by the book. Had it since 130K. Had the oil pump bolt done as precaution at 220K. Actually think its getting better. Pretty economical

Im hoping shes less half way though her motoring life.

I've got my 00 td5 with 250K on the clock and fitted with a powerchip and the EGR taken off. Thing hauls now, Much better than stock.

No major problems to address, just general things you would expect from a car with 250K kilometres.

I have owned 1 since Jan this year (2003 Td5 auto 230,000) and I like it, I think as long as you get one that is services properly and don't mind having a go at fixing things yourself with the trusty rave cd and the help from the good people on this forum they are a great 4x4

    Good luck
