Mate,
Read your policy document, that will outline your rights in this issue. Who is the insurer?
Hi, I am going through my insurer, to claim for the "free" windscreen.
The claim was accepted, the windscreen fitter rang me and wanted me to confirm the model, then wanted dimensions of the screen, I advised (from the side of the road over the phone 100klm away in the country) that i could quote the VIN No and Nos off the Pilkington LR windscreen. -- didnt want them.
A week later I went in, left it with them, came back and was advised, incorrect rubber had been ordered. Just on two weeks later I rang again, rubber not ordered yet. .....I asked, was the screen and rubber ordered OEM, ans, NO all are the same just dont have LR price or label on screen, I advised i would prefer OEM on both parts, as vehicle is compehensively insured, and not confident with generic glass and rubber. Fitter NOT happy, allready has generic screen in stock, advised ring your insurer. Rang insurer, claims advises, I will be liable for the generic screen etc if I dont choose to take it. Just seems crook as the customer to be told how it will be, Any experience with generic screens and rubber ?? Any advice, ie just shut up and take it as supplied ??
Where does the customer stand here, I suppose I could pay for it myself if it comes to that. What is the story with being liable ? Fitter said, why didnt you say you wanted OEM, I advised why didnt you give me the option etc ? It just didnt cross my mind that the new parts would be generic cheaper material.
Cheers...Shawry.

check your windscreen and see if it is optiglass etc, if it is and the generic screen isn't then go back to insurer and state it is not the same quality as factory fitted.
My Es D2 has factory dark tinted front, rear, side and tail gate glass.
All other Disco 2s I see only have rear doors with dark tint and lighter tint on the front doors. I would be pretty peeved if one of the front window broke and they replaced it with the lighter tinted glass.

My policy only garauntees a window with similar uv rating coatings, which restricts you pretty much to OEM as the pilkington glass is a bit unique i think.
Unless the policy states OEM replacement you might be up the creek or list the issues reported about the trouble caused by fitting a generic glass by a fitter not familiar with the d2.
good luck!
Cancell with that supplier and go to a different one and start again. Tell the insurer that you are not happy with the workmanship from that fitter
I am going through the same thing and will be arranging the rubber myself. hadn't thought about own glass though.
Let us know how you go.
Again who is your insurer?
Matt
I have an el cheapo replacement windscreen and have had no issues with it. Perhaps it does not have the same tinting or thermal properties but it was a lot cheaper.....
It's how they are fitted that determines the problems - if correctly fitted, there are no issues - I would stay away from generic fitters - find someone who has experience with LR products.
After the issues I had with my Disco2 screen when getting replaced I demanded genuine LR parts and seals. I told the isurance company I wanted my car returned to the way it was BEFORE it needed to be replaced.. Non genuine screens dont have the sound deadening components and are slightly thinner and cause lots of road noise and leaks. Know your rights.. escalate this to another level. Dont put up with non genuine parts. I spent 30mins on the phone but in the end they got sick of me. Also make sure you get it in writing.. so if it happens again you can always get a genuine screen.
My insurer is Allianz. Claimed my 'free' windscreen late last year for my D2a after getting a stone chip right in the line of vision on drivers side.
I went to local O'Briens and they replaced it with a compliant screen as well as replacing the seals/rubbers etc. All done with minimal fuss and took an afternoon to complete. It's a Pilkington screen and as far as I am aware - OEM.......still looks like new so no problems from my point of view![]()
