Hi there. Discovered yesterday a weird thing. If I keep the revs constant on 3500 or thereabouts the engine starts to stutter as if starved by fuel. No misfire, no problems starting hot or cold, and no noticeable while accelerating normally. Any suggestions on what it may be? Thanks

may I say, the solution is don't keep the revs constant at 3500, not trying to be smart, but if we look for problems we will find them. If I hear a different noise, I turn the radio up, most of the time. Works for me. I have a 1999 TD5 with 348, 847 km's on the clock. Worry about the important things, or you will get an ulcer. I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
I suppose you're right. We are, after all, talking Land Rover here
and otherwise, I have to say, it's a beautiful car
sounds like overboost to me. I had the same problem a while back, replaced the turbo wastegate modulator valve & no more problem. About $70 & 15 minutes work.
However this may not be whats happening with you, as my issue occurred under hard acceleration, usually at around 3000 revs.
Search my thread "surging td5" & you'll find a bit more info
Cheers, Alex
The engine is not actually surging. It just ticks along albeit a bit intermittently. It does not drop speed, it will accelerate if the pedal gets pushed down, it sounds and feels like there is a shortage of diesel but I reckon I'll have to go with the previous advise or hook up a nannocom or similar. Anyway, keep it coming

Not being disrespectful, but why are you revving her so hard anyway?. 3000 is usually my limit and I regularly tow 2300KG with no problems. It pulls just as hard @ 2700-3000 as it does at higher RPM's. Just asking.

Robbo
well it was a test and I have just tested again and it does seem to be the surge described elsewhere. It happens under hard acceleration above 3500 revs or so. I usually do not rev that high either. That's why someone else actually discovered this phenomenon. Will have a fiddle tomorrow trying to isolate the fault.
I know it's not very representative to normal day to day use but then it should rev freely to 4500 or so if all is ok. Anyway thanks for all the help![]()
