    TD5 crankshaft pulley?

I was driving my 03 TD5 Disco yesterday when I noticed the Alt/Battery light come on on the dash, the steering got heavy and brakes where very poor when I pulled over to have a look under the hood. Engine didnt miss a beat, running well but drive belt for alt/ac ect was not spinning. I have had a look and think that maybe my Crankshaft pulley has let go. When engine is off I can move/rotate the serpentine belt and cannot feel any binding ect, also no leaking of oil and no wear on the belt. Is it likely that only the pulley needs to be replaced or is it something more major ? Any advised would be appricated and if anyone has replace their crankshaft pulley recently what does a replacement pulley cost ?
    Regards

With out seeing it I'd sugest the centre bolt has come loose.
There is a rubber that can lossen in the pulley so it would need a closer look.
Have a look at UP's thread on his change...www.discovery2.co.uk / Crankshaft pulley* / TV damper replacement
There is no key-way on the crank and in some cases the crank does get damaged.
Mine has done this and while it's spun on the crack the damage was minimal.
In some cases the crank needs changing.

Gueesing close to $900 mark for pulley, seal and bolt plus fitting.
Check all the other pulies while the belt is off.
    Cheers, Kyle

Thanks for the link, after reading the info provided, then jumping under the hood, hopefully the problem is only the rubber in the center of the pulley and not any damage to shaft and keyway for wood ruff key. Bolt is tight but there is a bit of flex in the pulley much like what was discribed/shown in the link provided. Looked at prices online, nothing new here item in Oz double the price of same in UK.

Unfortunantly there is no keyway and wood-ruff key on the TD5's.
Land Rover must have figured at 336ft/lb it wouldn't be needed

    Talking td5 crankshaft pulley

YESSS!!!!! what a bummer, I have just replaced the power steering pump, to discover on replacement that the rubber on the pulley has let go too----checked the prices in OZ all around the $1000 mark 380 in UK so I'll have to wait---give me time to replace the water pump as well and give the beast a bit of a clean up. The cause of all the trouble was from self diagnosis--I figgered the slipping belt sound was the exaust manifold again so ordered the new studs and gaskets to suit then on my way back from Cairns the power steer pump siezed and all hell broke loose oil everywhere and the fan belt ripped to shreds and jammed in and around the crank pulley. I overnighted on the side of the road then had to get a tilt tray to get me home as my "SPARE BELT" was an old one and believe it -----they shrink after coming off SO----throw away the old belts and use a new one as a spare.

Crank shaft pulley all fixed, Disco is now mobile again. "Alien D2" hit the nail on the head, the crankshaft pulley bolt had come loose just enough to allow the pulley to slip on the shaft. Pulley removed and no damage , a little scoring on shaft but ok. All re-assembled with new bolt and locktite, torqued up and now playing nicely.
