    Drivers door check strap detached

Removed to sticky rubber cover to reveal.
This is loose and appears to have a cracked weld?
    How to fix?
The pin ends up forced against the A post when closing door.
Havent heard of this one before!
    Thanks

Yep I got this too. Looks like a pain to fix.

    And what was the fix?

I had a look inside and it doesn't go through as the A pillar is a box section.

I'm currently thinking about just welding it from the outside. Just opening the door as far as I can with the check strap disconnected and then tacking it.

    Happy Days.

Yes did that and it broke off again. Theres a lot of load on that weld...
The check strap can be removed as the door opening is limited by the hinges.
The door comes off real easy btw just 2 circlips and lift off (and the wiring)
Its on my list of things still to do for the D2
    Regards

Thanks mate. I looked it up in RAVE and see it's easy to get the door off without having to completely remove the whole hinge. I was worried about alignment but those circlips make it easy.

Were you worried about heat when you weld it the first time. I am a bit worried about something inside the A pillar catching fire and not having access to put it out.

    Happy Days.
