Mine was off for years until I recently bought a new captive nut from British Off Road. They had to order it in. It was only a few bucks. The heat shield I would leave on. Although the bracket on mine had cracked and was recently welded up.

    Cheers,

    JC

Might be ok in sunny England, but over here I liken it to wearing a beanie on a 40 degree day.
    Mines been off for ages.

a quik fix for this is to leave a bit of the rope hanging out one side when you shut it. Tightens the lid, no more rattle. Mine drove me nuts.

Another reason to remove the turbo heat shield,

imagine the disaster if I'd left it on to rub thru the oil cooler pipe

there is no reason for this stupid piece of crap to be left on a Td5, it certainly is not good enough to be a thermal insulator for the turbo in any climate, its just a useless piece of crap, as I said before it causes more trouble if left on, and its oh soooo much easier to change your oil filter with it off.

The only possible valid reason anyone might leave it on is a place to cook your dinner as your driving

The captive nut is about $5 to replace.
