    D2 ('03) Aux Battery Location

I want to fit an Aux Battery, and am not impressed by ARBs offering ($, proximity to turbo heat & tiny non-deep cycle Century battery). I've tried to identify Optimas; Oddyssey & Hawker options but all too tall. My plan is to occupy the bottom of the OS rear side storage bin. Before I "invent the wheel", anyone else already sorted this?

Lucky 8 sell a battery tray that allows 2 group34 batteries to fit into where the original battery it is. It involves taking the black plastic tray out and removing the jack out. If you've got a v8 then it'll work, for a td5 it's a bit more work and I would advise not to do it as it interferes with the ECU.

Im in the middle of installing one (lucky 8) ill post some pics as i go. This pic is after the original batt box was removed and i had just bolted in the lucky8 one. It will hold 2x optima D34's when finished.

I am fitting the ECU behind the batt tray but at the moment it doesn't fit as well as I would like. I have cut away a little of the old batt tray support. you can kind of see the end result in th pic below. Where the dark patches are.

You can see the ecu sits up a bit too high so ill need to do a bit more cutting. Also awaiting the delivery of the second battery.

Hi, like a lot of D2 (03 TD5) owners, I am debating the pro's and con's of where the placing of the aux battery in order to protect the battery from heat and maximise the space in the engine bay. Has anyone placed it underneath the car, driver's side, similar to how the compressor for the the suspension air bags?

You stole my post was just thinking the same thing as I was reading up the thread.

A truck wrecker may have a good battery tray that is chassis mounted. Most light trucks have them mounted that way.

Not sure, but I have been considering where to mount a large 80 Amp hour deep cycle for some time and that seems like a viable solution. Have a 7 seater so in the rear is not an option as my wife is over generous and seems to ferry heaps of stray kids around the place. (putting unnecessary klms on my precious Dii)

    Nothings imposible.

Will do a few measurments on the weekend. There are even quite a few generic battery cradles on the market that could easily be adapted.
