Had the squealing pump a couple of weeks back,,,,was quotred 438.00 for new pump from Forest Glenn... a mate came round to give us a clew or two and we fitted his pump ,squealed same as mine... I had read about air getting back via the injectors....was very hard to start....The battery is only a few months old and whilst it drives the starter crazy seedmes that no power was getting to the heaters , as when we put it on charge engine started just fine???
Replaced injector seals and copper washers ....pump still squealed ...removed fuel filter ...only 2 months old and poured fuel into glass jar there was much black stuff in fuel Carbon I Guess...replaced filter and hey presto no sqealling ...engine fires up just fine runs very well
Get it sorted Luke????
Well as Ive found out 40 litres of unleaded into a td5 doesnt mix to well, neither does the fuel pump like it.
Enough said.

I would suggest an air leak somewhere, common places are
The pipes from the pump to the filter housing, they chaff on the chassis on top of the rear cross member.
The fuel filter housing it's self can allow air to leak in and the non return valves can allow fuel to leak back over time giving effective low fuel pressure and hard starting.
The fuel pressure regulator can leak giving rise to low fuel pressure and hard starting.
There are 10-12 joints on the fuel lines depending on the year all of which have the potential to allow air to leak in.
I hope you get it sorted soon and cheaply!
