I had one of these come in a couple of years ago. I sharpened a long flat screwdriver and cut open the little plastic pocket that hangs under the lock. Then a bit of creative wriggling with the screwdriver and it opened. There's a white nylon spacer on the pull cable housing, when it fails it can't pull the inner far enough. From memory I made a new spacer out of some scrap copper.
