    Discovery 2 Speaker Size

Short of pulling the trims off to check?

Can anyone advise the size of the speakers in my 1999 D2 TD5. It only has the standard tape deck system and could desperately do with an upgrade.

I was hoping to purchase the speakers before pulling the car apart.

    Thanks,

    Jared

Most 6.5 inch speakers will fit. (depth is the only limiting factor) Front and back doors.

If you have tweeters in the A pillars then your best off taking the trim off (easy) and making sure the new ones will fit.- hot glue is your friend in fiting

Put a new cd player in. It will make a massive difference.
No point putting good speakers in when they aren't getting enough power in the first place.

I found I had to make up spacers to fit 6.5" speakers in the front doors, 6" would have been much easier.

That is the plan. One of the speakers is dead and I thought I might as well do the speakers and stereo at the same time.

The front doors also have the recess (even if you don't have the trim level) for the third speaker in the upper section of the door. If you work out the location of the cutout, cut the backing away from the vinyl cover, using the metal meshed grill for a 4" speaker and pushed out of the plastic surround. Then cut the vinyl (but not right to the edge) so you can use it to wrap around the cut edge of the backing. Then push the mesh grill into the cut out.
