Ashcroft CDL and the SLABS ECU wire cut
Hi all,
I purchased the Ashcroft CDL and reading the UK site: www.discovery2.co.uk/Factory Diff Lock
Under, "The FACTS about ABS , HDC, TC and Diff lock......." he mentions cutting one wire to the SLABS ECU.
Has anyone done this to a Disco ii Td5 Auto 2000 ?
Cheers

Just out of curiosity, where does the front of that thing bolt to? I know the original D1 CDL bolted to the top of the gearbox

Yes, I did that, (to my '99 D2 V8 anyway) as it allows you to leave the CDL engaged and switch the engine off, otherwise you'll get the 3 amigos on restart. (applies to aftermarket CDL kits only).
I followed some guidance I found on this site. Probably the UK Urbanpanzer one mentioned earlier, this guy knows his stuff.
Look carefully at the photo, see the black/blue wire, this was what I cut then sealed with electrical tape, been fine for 3 yrs now.

very nervous moment as there are two black wires, but one has a blue strand, cut that one.

I'm pretty sure if you can find a newer SLABS ecu part number SRD000150 or SRD500070 you don't have to cut the wires. They are programmed to work with the differential lock. Also there are improvements to how the traction control works in general on the newer computers.

I've got the John Davis CDL, a different version to that one, but it is activated by the CDL lever.
Re the SLABS computer, it sounds like a good idea but I get the impression that the ETC isn't as positive as the early type, so you may be better off snipping the wire
To be honest, the way I did it was to run a wire from the CDL switch on the transfer case to the dash, put a switch in and then returned the wire where it plugs into the original wire. That way when you restart you can just flick the switch and return it again or just use a momentary off switch. Then you don't have to snip any wires in your loom if you dont want.

Cost of a newer ECU and synching with the others + time, .vs measurable improvement..... Just cut the wire. I would bet my house you won't tell the difference.
