Have a look at the fuel pump relay could be either a dirty connection or the relay is cactus.
On a Defender there are other relays nearby that you can just put in and see if it runs Ok.

on the way out Saturday the td5 refused duty at the corner of our street Just nstarted missing then died. towed it home ,and walked away in disgust, how can so many problems keep dogging you....It started a few weeks ago noisy pump, would not start, another fuel pump was put in it was also noisy and vehicle would not fire up. Washed out red plug (oil in loom) used contact cleaner, Airated fuel was suggested ,Injector washers and seals were replaced , found a couple of broken exhaust studs (replaced them) plus air flow meter .... fired up just fine few days later was running on three cylinders took rocker cover off to check found nothing that covered the problem replaced cover fired up ran very smoothly for a week then started breaking down around 2900rpm On Sat fired up first touch of the key but the delight only lasted 80meters....So far have found fuel pump does not run, can not detect power to pump.. fuses etc seem to be in order

Are you confident with understanding the relay wiring?
While you have the realy out check that there is a supply of power to the relay.
You could conect the switch side of the relay plugs with a jump wire and see if the pump runs.
This will tell you if it's a relay signal or pump/wire problem.
Don't do this if your not sure what wires do what!
helpfull ressection suggestions came from many areas....Fuel pump was completely cactus replaced it with one from Brit off Road all the minor vibrations have gone they must have come from the fuel pump not keeping up with the required load...is this thought feasible
for several weeks would have mild vibration 90-100kph seemed a little sluggish but has done 313,000, and as we were experiencing the vibrations was not really pushing for Power,,,have posted what we have done, but was surprised when pump died... is beautiful to drive now...Peter thexprinter
