    Talking RADIATOR td5

A self tapping screw in the header tank? Well mine has stripped and is now leaking--the one on the right side holding the fan shroud--noticed a leak yesterday then checked it this morning---well I'm about to use a larger threaded screw and some silicone--hoping it will work!!! Anyone else had this problem???

yes, not uncommon i wouldn't use a larger screw, just clean it out and dry it, use the original screw with araldite or a good silicon type sealant, there is very little pressure and the screw only holds the shroud on.

I had the same thing. Use a slightly larger screw and Teflon tape has worked a treat for 12 months now. Redo the tape each time I need to take the shrowd off.

Just don't go to a longer screw!
The hole is into a void and as JC said only to hold the shroud on.
If the screw is to long it pearces the radiator tank
I checked mine when fitting a new radiator and found it would have puntured the tanks with the standard screws.
They both have flat washers under them now
    Cheers, Kyle

In 2005, 2 mates & I did a Simpson trip & on the 2nd day stuck in Tibooburra as we got rained in, we decided to check over our vehicles. My mate was just tightening a few things when "pfffft" went the coolant as he screwed down the cover & did exactly what you descibe.

To this day all we did was place 2 "O"-rings & a heap of Silicon under the screw & it has not leaked.

Take your time & let it cure for a few days..we did as we couldnt go anywhere apart from the hotel across the road.

    Cheers

I used that 2 part epoxy paste for Radiator and fuel tank repairs.
The stuff you need like plasticine and it goes steel hard in about 10 mins.
I filled the hole and also used some over the hole to stick the broken radiator shroud arm back on.

So far lasted 8 months will no leak.

When I had some radiator work done a few weeks back, he noticed the same that the screw had pieced the Radiator Tank. Extremely happy with that considering the Radiator is less then 9 months old.

Might have a look into a few of these solutions and see how I go.

    Thanks All
