    Gates serpentine belt

Hi all! just wondering if anyone is familiar with the gates serpentine belts and if anyone has fitted one to their d2? apparently they are market leaders in conveyer belts etc. and have expanded into the aftermarket range for european cars. I purchased one from repco:
Gates Micro-v at. 7PK1820. anyone used these before?

    thanks

Gates has been one of the major players in aftermarket (and maybe OEM too) drives belts in the US for decades. Assuming they are the same belts, they should be good quality.

Gates are the OEM supplier of drive belts and timing belts to >60% of all vehicles. Most of the rest are made by Dayco.

After 80K I replaced the Gates belt on my TD5 with the original that had done 100K because I was concerned at the cracking of the Gates belt. However the ecu was remapped during the time the Gates belt was fitted so it may have been subjected to more heat than the LR belt.

Edit: Just because they're available doesn't mean they are necessarily as good as OEM belts. I've snapped new Gates belts on my Case/IH header whereas OEMs don't snap.

Thanks guys! the only reason i ask is that i have already purchased one as mentioned it is the 7pk1820, but it doesnt seem to be the right size (too long). would anybody happen to know what the right gates belt size for a d2 td5 A/C with non ACE belt?

Measure the old belt - mark a line on the outside of the belt and keep it flat where measuring. 7PK1820 is 7 "peaks" and 1820 mm long so get a 7PK.... that matches your measured length as closely as possible, with +/- 5mm expected to be acceptable.

The "LR genuine" D2 belts are ContiTech, fwiw.

The Conti catalog lists two sizes for the TD5:

    ALT (-AC) (-LC) 7PK1715
    ALT AC (-LC) 7PK1801

The marking on the Contitech ACE/AC/Td5 belt is 7PK1887.

Seekpart.com lists the following sizes in Gates Belts for the Td5 accessory belt:

    -ACE -AC: 7PK1715
    -ACE +AC: 7PK1800
    +ACE -AC: 7PK1818
    +ACE +AC: 7PK1888

Not sure why repco would recommend 7PK1820 for +AC -ACE, apart from the fact it was probably the closest common size they had.
