    Alpine Stereo Identification/Grom Audio Help

I've just got my first Discovery 2, it's the facelift model and the first mod I've managed to get past SWMBO is to fit a Grom Audio interface so we can use the iPod and phone in the car.

The unit only works with the Alpine headunits and I'm wondering if the LR factory single CD player is a rebranded Alpine unit or if it was an uprated/optional extra. The unit plugs into the CD changer port so any pointer/help would be gratefully received.

    Thanks
    Jake

    Hi Jake,

I replaced my single cd unit in my 2003 D2a with an Alpine CD/ipod compatible head unit. It was a straight plug in (apart from steering controls)which leads me to believe that the LR was an alpine unit. I'll check the old one tonight when I get home - give me a reminder if I don't get back to you.

One thing I will say is that here was a very noticable improvement in sound quality with the new unit in and the standard speakers (which are Hardon Karmon btw) so if you can afford to go for a new unit you get the controls and better sound (the LR radio reception was poor on mine as well) I got my Alpine from JB hifi for $300 which was half price, and so a complete impulse purchase at the time - a bit more than the ipod adaptor but worth it IMHO.

Be careful though - these LR's are dangerous to the wallet - there's just too many options to customise/upgrade with them!

Jake, mine was a visteon unit, looks like the third on on the page linked below. It just seemed to have 3 ISO connections on the back - it didn't look as though it had a cd changer plug.

I have been mucking around with a new aerial with limited success to date. (See previous post from couple of weeks ago). I am coming to the conclusion the poor reception is not only the poor aerial but also the poor radio unit itself.

So, did you get better reception with the new unit compared to the standard?

Definitely Mundy, there's no issues with reception at all now - very clear signal all round, just got an issue with the rubbish that's broadcast now
